Helping Children Heal from Sexual Abuse is a Free, virtual Parent Support Group for adoptive, foster, or kinship families raising children who have previously suffered sexual abuses.

Please join Hudson Valley AGAPE team for an open parent support group via video chat. We will provide educational discussion-based concepts of self-care, advocacy support for your child through their sometimes-difficult behavior, and a safe space to connect with other parents who share similar experiences.

We encourage all foster, adoptive, and guardianship parents to build connections with others who “get it.” During our bi-weekly virtual Hudson Valley Connection Group, we will show a brief training; leaving plenty of time to discuss the topic and open the floor up to anyone looking for resources, advice, or a non-judgmental space to share what’s on their mind.

Our hope is to have a safe place where you can connect with other single parents to share your triumphs and joy, your strategies for staying sane amidst the chaos and also find new ways to recharge and take care of the most important person in your child’s life…YOU!

Older adults are living longer and longer lives. However, with longer life, the need for significant support increases. Caregivers are increasingly called upon to provide the necessary supports to keep an older adult functioning – often for a period of years.  A key aspect of effective work with older adults is understanding and supporting the difficult and important role of their caregivers. Depending on our role, we expect clients to learn and use skills for growth, and development, yet few professionals have been trained in or use practice skills to reduce STS symptoms resulting from helping work. Professional accountability demands we do better for ourselves and those we serve! This two part workshop helps meet licensure ethics requirements and asks the question: do we have an ethical responsibility to attend to our own wellness? The interactive first 90min session includes research findings, guidelines from professional codes and group conversation and explores our professional responsibility if we observe STS impacts with a colleague. Part 2 fills the gap and supports our STS reduction through an overview of 5 evidence-informed skills from a model (CE-CERT) with clinical outcomes data for reducing STS impacts and highlights the role of supervisors in safeguarding the well-being of supervisees from a self-care/ethics perspective.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), published a new rule regarding public charge determinations, which will negatively impact certain older immigrants and their families. Public charge determinations are relevant for people seeking admissibility into the United States and people seeking to adjust their immigration status to Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), also known as “green card” holders. The new rule enables immigration officers to consider a wide variety of factors when determining if someone may depend on the government as their main source of support in the future. The new rule takes effect September 18, 2026.

In this webinar, presenters will provide an overview of the new public charge rule, including what has changed from the previous rule, and provide advocates with resources to stay up to date on public charge changes. This webinar will be most important for legal and aging services providers who work with older immigrants and immigrants with disabilities on public benefits issues or immigration-related matters.
