Relatives Raising Relatives (for Caregivers)

There are many benefits of being a caregiver to a relative’s child(ren) but there are also many lifestyle changes and challenges to those raising these children. This workshop will explore lifestyle changes, emotional issues as well as discuss ways to help our children cope with some of the common behavioral problems such as trauma, telling the truth about the birth parents, loyalty issues and more. This workshop will help identify ways caregivers can increase their ability to cope and advocate for the children in their care.

Approximate Length of Training:  1.0 – 1.5 Hours

Advocating for your Child/ Grandchild in School: The Basics of Special Education in NJ

Find out your Special Education Rights in NJ. Attend an overview to a parent/ guardian’s right to advocate for their children in the New Jersey school system. This workshop will assist parents in advocating for your child within the New Jersey Special Education System.

Approximate Length of Training:  1.5 hours

Telling Difficult History to your Relative’s Children

Sharing painful information about a child’s history or birth family can be challenging for those raising relative’s children.  This workshop will help you develop the skills to competently tell the children you are raising difficult information and help them process it.
