This session will provide the learner with an overview of issues related to early, middle and late stage dementia from the perspective of the client and caregiver.  As dementia progresses there are predictable milestones that most clients and caregivers experience.  Stage specific interventions to deal with client’s cognitive and functional deficits as well as supportive strategies for caregivers will be presented.  This comprehensive understanding of the stages of dementia, corresponding clinical issues and suggested strategies for management provide the professional health care provider a greater sense of confidence in creating plans of care, decision making as well as developing anticipatory guidance for caregivers and families.

This class looks at the psychological process a victim undergoes once they realize they are trapped by someone they have never met.

In 2021, NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children” processed more than 29.3 million reports of potential online child sexual abuse or exploitation. That is more than 80,000 a day. It is truly a pandemic that exploded during the Covid lock down as young people conducted online learning. The victims are younger and younger. Many times, the families are not aware of just how serious the situation is and that their child is in grave danger and in a situation, they are not emotionally or psychologically prepared to handle.

In this session, we will look at the many different ways individuals and sextortion rings access, seduce and blackmail our young people. We will look at specific social media, games, and apps that are used by predators. We will examine the profile of various predators who are working alone or as part of a large-scale sextortion ring. We will explore what makes victims vulnerable to exploitation and how they respond including leaving home in the middle of the night or running away with the predator. We will examine several cases where exceptionally smart and talented young males and females took their own lives shortly after being blackmailed. We will identify behavioral traits that indicate a child is in trouble and most important discuss prevention and intervention methods for parents, counselors, educators, advocates and faith leaders.

While a rare disease, primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a devastating condition that robs individuals of their ability to communicate verbally. This program will help health and mental health professionals understand how it presents, what causes it, and how to best support impacted persons. Included will also be a discussion about how to distinguish PPA from other neurological issues.

The passage of California SB 357 is sure to have a major impact on how adult sex trafficking cases are investigated and prosecuted. California SB 357 has redefined the California Penal Code related to loitering for the purposes of soliciting for prostitution. During this session we will examine how the sex trafficking business will be affected and most important the impact on victims of sex trafficking. We will explore how advocates, counselors, law enforcement and the faith-based community are responding to the change and most of all how they are adapting to support the victim.

The curriculum will also identify how advanced technologies are changing the world of human trafficking. We will explore technologies such as GEO locations on apps and dating sites, Virtual Private Network, Artificial Intelligence, mass audience live streaming, and sex ads on bulletproof hosting sites have changed the way sex trafficking is promoted by pimps and investigated by law enforcement. We will examine how organized criminal enterprises use texting, Tik Tok, cryptocurrency, What’s App, Telegram, dating sites and online subscription pornography sites to conduct recruitment and trafficking business. We will look at apps that are targeting the LBGTQI community and programs that will help parents and educators protect their young people from exploitation.

Residents with dementia lose the ability to communicate like the rest of us. If you want to better understand your resident, you must learn to become dementia fluent. This program will increase your understanding of what your resident is trying to tell you. It will also help you adjust your communication strategies, so your resident better understands you.

New research provides avenues to understand how physical movement is affected by cognitive impairment.  Even subtle cognitive changes such as Mild Cognitive Impairment significantly impact balance and movement.  Certain dementias are associated with motor impairment, which increases fall risk.  There are specific behavioral issues, personality factors and care issues that need to be recognized as fall risks.  Comprehensive fall risk assessments and strategies for management are incorporated into this lecture.

Although great strides have been made to reform guardianship systems across the country, those reforms have largely overlooked issues relating to equity. Older adults who are members of marginalized communities may well be at increased risk of disability and guardianship due to a lifetime of discriminatory bias. Within the guardianship system itself, those same biases might further and even exacerbate existing disparities.

The session will provide participants with clear recommendations they can then use to advocate for equitable change within their own state guardianship systems.

Please join us as we explore the intersection of guardianship and equity and examine how the guardianship system, and the ongoing reform efforts within that system, might better address the needs of marginalized older adults.

This workshop will focus on the ACEs study: what it is, what it found, and how we can apply this to whole person healing and wellness.

Combination of lecture, video, discussion, & activity –

This workshop will dive deeper into the ACEs study in detail, its findings, impacts, and how it has been expanded and implemented. We will cover expansive assessments such as that created by Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, suggested practices when working with survivors of ACEs, resources, and additional reading materials/studies, and we will explore the many applications that ACE style assessments do and/or can have, including some considerations for barriers or limitations of such. Participants will be allowed to unpack their own ACE scores and their potential impact on their mental, emotional, and physical health as well as behavior. At the same time, we also explore our client’s potential experiences with ACEs.

Youth & Adult; Client & Provider; We will share expert de-escalation techniques to diffuse individuals who are highly agitated and volatile.

This workshop goes through how to de-escalate an out-of-control and/or hostile person through multiple techniques designed for youth and adults. Participants will have multiple opportunities to experience these techniques themselves and feel their effectiveness. It will also offer an explanation of some self-regulation struggles and a perhaps new perspective on how to move through those experiences with compassion for all involved.

Deconstructing the Gender Paradigm: Supporting Male Survivors in AAPI Communities

Womankind’s 2025 Anti-Human Trafficking Conference aims to provide a nuanced understanding of how gender dynamics affect survivors of labor trafficking in Asian American and Asian immigrant communities. In doing so, we hope to ultimately strengthen more inclusive and effective support systems. Panelists will analyze the gender paradigm, which includes traditional beliefs and norms related to gender roles and identities, and explore how society shapes and enforces these expectations. Additionally, they will offer suggestions on how to better support male survivors of labor trafficking, while avoiding the reinforcement of these norms.

When and how to effectively use a Private Investigator in child sex crimes or when a child goes missing.

When families are faced with dealing with a potential situation where a child might be being violated, or when a child goes missing or is caught up in a sex trafficking ring or victimized by a sextortion ring, families realize they are in crisis but may not understand how to effectively respond. It is often difficult to know who to turn to and how to locate an investigator that you can trust.

Lynda will talk about how to deal with a situation where a young person has disappeared voluntarily and involuntarily and how to successfully interact with authorities. We will explore case studies where young people have been groomed and seduced into sex trafficking and how a private investigator can assist a family in learning more about the individual, where they might be currently, and if they are currently being advertised in online sex ads.

Lynda will also discuss case-studies where an adult or young person is being exploited or black mailed online and what can be done about it. She will talk about how predators use specific apps and educate about how pedophiles and largescale foreign national rings are using social media to exploit and extort adults and teens. Most important she will talk about how to interact with a professional private investigator to understand the nature of the danger and track the illicit activity.
