US: SCOTUS to Hear Virginia Transgender Case With Big Implications for Ed Policy and Beyond
The 74 – October 27, 2016
The U.S. Supreme Court announced Friday it would decide whether the Obama Administration can require public schools to allow transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity. The case, Gloucester County School Board v. G.G., involves 17-year-old Gavin Grimm from Virginia, who argued that his high school’s policy barring him from the boys’ restroom violated Title IX, the federal law banning sex discrimination in public schools.
