US: Preparing for HHS’ digital disruption: Thoughts from ISM 2017 (Commentary)
American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) – November 28, 2017
Aside from policy – which is always critical in any discussion of state health and human services – there is the continuing debate on cloud services and new technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain. Cloud continues to have slow adoption in health and human services, but the trend is accelerating. Popular new technologies such as IoT and Blockchain continue to search for a “killer” HHS application. Additionally, the antiquated state of HHS systems means most attention is paid to keeping the lights on, leaving little time for the new, killer applications. Technology is advancing, but policy stability will help accelerate the change in technology. States need to prepare.
