PA: The surge in narcotic overdoses is affecting everyone
Philadelphia Inquirer – January 02, 2017
From 2000 to 2012, there was a five-fold increase in the number of babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome – equivalent to one baby suffering from narcotic withdrawal born every 25 minutes. A recent study published in JAMA Pediatrics looked at over 13,000 U.S. pediatric discharge records for patients 1-19 years of age who were hospitalized from 1997 to 2012 for opioid poisonings.
