All About Attention Deficit Disorder

  • Phelan, Thomas, Ph.D

In ten short years Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) has jumped from obscurity to center stage.   In the early 1980s those of us who were both parents of ADD children and mental health professionals had ADD “coming out of our ears,” both at home and a t work.  But no one else, it seemed, had ever heard of the problem even though — then as well as now — ADD was the number one psychological condition in children.

Today all that is different.  With the phenomenal growth of our ADD support groups throughout the country and with voluminous media exposure, ADD has become a household word.  Today everybody had heard of ADD.  An everyone has an opinion — or two–about it.
