International: United Nations Acknowledges FGM As Child Abuse For The First Time

Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, the head of the UN population fund, has said that the practice must end immediately. “There is absolutely no reason to cut anybody, and it seems to us that it is part of the gender imbalance that has always existed in these communities, which is based on patriarchy,” he said. “I think its child abuse.”
