Families are more complex than ever before, and this complicates many caregiving situations involving older adults.  Many seniors prefer to “shack up” rather than remarry.  Gay marriage is legal in many states and more LGBT families are having children.  More and more non-blood-related loved ones can be considered “family” to an older adult.  These changing family dynamics can create ethical dilemmas for healthcare professionals.  Ethical challenges surrounding visitation, healthcare decision-making and confidentiality regarding older adults with complex family dynamics will be explored during this interactive and thought-provoking presentation.
