Equitable Guardianship Reform: Recommendations for Advancing Equity in the Guardianship System January 14, 2025

Although great strides have been made to reform guardianship systems across the country, those reforms have largely overlooked issues relating to equity. Older adults who are members of marginalized communities may well be at increased risk of disability and guardianship due to a lifetime of discriminatory bias. Within the guardianship system itself, those same biases might further and even exacerbate existing disparities.

The session will provide participants with clear recommendations they can then use to advocate for equitable change within their own state guardianship systems.

Please join us as we explore the intersection of guardianship and equity and examine how the guardianship system, and the ongoing reform efforts within that system, might better address the needs of marginalized older adults.
