Empowering Consumers in Long Term Care August 27, 2024
For decades, federal law has sought to provide consumer protections for people living in nursing homes. By contrast, beginning only last year, federal regulations have taken baby steps in establishing resident rights in assisted living facilities that accept Medicaid.
Carlson believes that more can be done especially in educating residents and their families about their rights and how they can and should advocate for high quality care. This webinar will discuss federal protections provided for consumers in each type of facility, sharing consumer tips and a critique of federal assisted living policies that are still under development.
Carlson is Director of Long-Term Services and Supports for Justice in Aging, a consumer advocacy group that fights senior poverty through law. He is long-term care expert and author of 25 Common Nursing Home Problems & How to Resolve Them. This webinar is produced in partnership with Reston’s Positive Aging Community and sponsored by The Kensington Reston and KB Healthcare Services.
