Access to Medicare for People Leaving Incarceration July 22, 2025

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Connecting with health coverage after leaving jail or prison can be difficult and confusing. A growing number of older adults are incarcerated, meaning that Medicare is increasingly a health coverage option to consider when advising people at reentry. New federal rules, passed last year, make it easier to access Medicare. This webinar, Access to Medicare for People Leaving Incarceration, will provide reentry navigators, legal service providers, and aging advocates with information about health coverage for older adults returning to the community. Presenters will discuss:

• How to enroll in Medicare using the Incarceration Special Enrollment Period

• Accessing Medicare services while in community supervision; and

• Accessing additional financial assistance and coverage through Medicaid

Who Should Participate: Reentry navigators, legal service providers, and aging advocates
