A maze of emotions: A Paramus woman’s 25-year search for her birth mom.
In July, a photo of two women’s clasped hands appeared on Jean Hegg’s Facebook page. One belonged to the 49-year-old Hegg, a longtime North Jersey resident, who was born in Canada; the other to her biological mother, whom Hegg had finally located after a search that lasted 25 years.
Two weeks later, in the dining room of her home in Paramus, Hegg recalled that emotional and very-long-awaited meeting, while sitting at a table in front of folders filled with more than two decades of paperwork.
“Oh, how can I describe it?” she asked, staring down at copies of letters dating to 1991. “My meeting with her was just amazing, joyous … the beginning of a new, wonderful journey. A new journey for both of us.”
